drglam and i went to wegman's grocery out west of the city today. i think she described it well as "the jordan's furniture of food" -- MASSIVE is the word that springs to my mind. but not uncomfortable or intimidating or poorly laid out.
i got a bunch of interesting teas, one new-to-me kind of citrus fruit (some tangelo-like thang), a peach sorbet that
drglam recommended, a pile of tasty-seeming salad fixin's.... yum :)
future plans include h-mart! :)

wegman's
On the south side of Route 9 near the Chestnut Hill malls. It will be just off Middlesex Turnpike, a few blocks north of the Burlington Mall - but not until the fall of 2013. I didn't know they had wegmans in Boston! The Wegmans family is from my college town--big into fox hunting and they used to donate horses to our college team. They leased me a fat little palomino named Frosty one winter to get him into shape for their foxhunting season. This is great. Boston *badly* needs new blood in the supermarket retail space. Shaw's/Star and Stop&Shop have been without competition in most of metro Boston for far too long. Foodmaster is pretty much an also-ran, and Market Basket's primary virtue is that they're cheap(er), rather than any advantage in quality and variety of merchandise. I haven't been to the Gigantic Market Basket in Chelsea yet. Have you? At least before Wegman's opened, it was claimed to be the largest supermarket in New England. WEGMAN'S! <3
